Dear Atishi,

I hope this note finds you in the best of health and spirit. I write to you with great hope and expectation.

I just read a devastating article on the state of schools in Maharashtra (https://ruralindiaonline.org/articles/sometimes-theres-no-place-like-school); pretty sure there are many that I have not read with respect to other states. Overall the state of affairs with respect to education, seems rather dismal.

In Delhi, you have managed to pull of a great turnaround. Right from infrastructure to educating teachers it has been well thought out and brilliantly executed. While there may be some niggles here and there, it has been the one heartening thing on education that we read about. This is also one of the best policy interventions in recent times, one thing which has actually worked.

Having said that, it bewilders me that other states have not adopted this best practice in their areas. The only obvious and maybe simplistic reason is political and a reluctance to share credit. In the meanwhile an entire generation is exposed to the dangers of not getting a quality education.

I would like to make a small suggestion. Please prepare a good note on what you did to achieve this turnaround. Put it out on the internet for everyone to read — hence the title — Tesla has released all its patents with respect to electric cars. I am requesting you to take the lead in making accessible all the information that anyone may need to start a similar turnaround in their states. Further, follow this up by organizing a meeting of education ministers of all states; you can take them through what has been done in Delhi.

I hope you do consider this suggestion positively.

Thanks.
