When these 8 talk to God
do they agree
to a resolve eternal
or reach an understanding
on something so fickle
some disclaimer
those affidavits
may some day
not be worth the paper
on which they are engraved
do they agree
on an exit clause
subject to some act of god

When these 8 talk to god
do they agree
to an exemption
from divine justice
that keeping one’s word
is for mere mortals
and that these favoured few
can do as they please
rules applicable
as different as
chalk and cheese

When these 8 talk to God
how are they allowed
to pull wool
over divine eyes
and get away
if God can be conned
what chance do
ordinary folks have anyway
or is he extra benevolent to them
what favours do they trade
for this divine upgrade

when these 8 talk to god
who do they see
as they kneel
on that altar
in that sanctum sanctorum
what words ring in their head
the voice of god
or
just their devious mind
drumming up words
they believe come from him
but in essence is their own bullshit

If there is indeed a god
now would be a good time
to bring out
that lightning
that locust swarm
and other weapons
I am unaware of
or just join
the legions of
the silent
the uncaring
the unseeing
the unhearing

maybe from now on
we should call
all of them, gods
