merry go round

so one more
go round our sun
done
so one more
page turned
on calendars
few days more
till we get used to
writing twenty four
instead of twenty three
few more cheques will
go stale
and we will move on
like we always do
in hope or in
despair both
nature does not wait
neither does time

words without truth
arguments bereft of reason
actions sans character

poetry without color
promises bereft of intent
ends sans means

travel without destinations
notes bereft of music
fests sans friends

like a feather floating
at the mercy of the wind
delusion of freedom
clouded by debates
meaningless
our echo chambers
inviting, cozy, warm

photographs
crowding the wall
memories holding on
memories carrying on
people like objects
in rear view mirrors
seeming closer
than
they really are

wishing that twenty four
be as happy as it can get
wishing that twenty four
be better than twenty three

the barbarians at the door
if they still hold sway
will come in the way
but then we got used
to smog
we will learn to live
under clouds
which even when silver lined
are still clouds

here’s to one more round done
here’s to one more round beginning

hold fast
