Counting over in the assembly elections of UP, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur. Highlight of the elections was obviously UP . Rahul tried his level best but could not stack up the numbers, Akhilesh presented a face of new hope to the electorate and swept everything in sight.

Post results, both were extremely graceful. One magnanimous in victory the other humble in defeat. Akhilesh has to grapple with the demons of its past and deliver on promises made.

Rahul has to find the elusive wind under his wings. For me the most touching moment was when Priyanka hugged Rahul as he returned to base camp after addressing the media and accepting responsibility for the defeat. A truly “Kodak” moment….

..AND rises again….

It was a great press conference today by Rahul. Started well, straightaway got into responsibility of the elected. Thanked the past governments. Thanked his colleagues and more importantly the Congress karyakartas. Nice to see. Congratulated the winners of Mizoram and Telangana. A few self effacing comments.

Continued in great style. Talked about 2014 and the lessons he learnt; arrogance is fatal, so much to learn. Loan waiver, not the ultimate solution, said they are upto the challenge. This is a measured conversation. Came across as humble, eager to learn.

And most importantly, called out the fact that this election was mainly fought on the issue of corruption. Served notice to the current govt for 2019. Humility in victory shown.. continuing from the grace in defeat displayed long ago.

Well done, Sir
