coax fingers
to hold that F chord
implore muscle memory
through the exercises

find alternative
adjust ability
challenge
accept

enjoy the journey
ignore anticipation of destination

picking up the guitar at 48
lots to explore
to learn
needs understanding neighbours

they lay strewn
little orbs of yellow
on the tarred road
from afar seemed
like a million cabs
parked
going nowhere
just waiting

closeup they looked
serene, undisturbed
no sweepers or ambling people
to send them swirling into drains
where they would on normal days
end up meeting other flowers
who just a day before
may have adorned a statue
or found pride of place
at the foot of a god

dreams, hopes,
some fulfilled
some crashed and burned
all finding common ground
time took a break
the dance of our present
with our past
the waltz of an uncertain future
all paused

that was 18 months ago
the tar road is now concrete
i can’t see them yellow flowers
no more
